A bit of Spring

So lately I've been just not loving my house...to put it nicely. Every room I go in needs something done...curtains, walls painted, furniture, new cabinets, new appliances...I know, I know, I shouldn't complain. I have much to be thankful for ...and I AM thankful. Every night I thank God for blessing me with a healthy, happy family. It's just that I also selfishly wish He'd bless me with a new kitchen too....

Recently I let the kids draw/paint on the walls in the dining room turned study. Big mistake.  I had seen a blog where the mom let the kids draw on the walls and thought it was cute. I figured the wallpaper would be coming down at some point anyway.  Well, apparently her kids are all mini Picasso's. My walls look like crap. How many times can you write "Hannah was here"...or write your brother's a butthead? Today I just needed one little space to look Springy. I bought the wheat grass and the little clover plants and the tulips and it instantly made me feel better.

I made a new friend in town. We have a bit in common...we're both new to town, we both have 4 kids..3 boys, 1 girl..and we both used to play tennis. Maybe one of these days I'll get back out there and hit with her. Who am I kidding? My left leg wouldn't fit in those cute skirts right now. Oh, and another thing...I love her house. LOVE.HER.HOUSE.....I picked up Will there the other day after a playdate and she invited me in. It's in town..walk to the cafe, the water, the little shops. It's an old house that's been renovated beautifully. I didn't want to leave.

I am trying to love my house. I love my neighborhood and my neighbors...the kids always have someone to play with outside.  I really couldn't ask for anything more....so I won't. I'll just be thankful for what I have.

  1. I am so with you on this one. I've never even had a kid that liked to draw or color in coloring books until Hyrum. No cute are pics to hang, etc. If I let mine loose, that would be tragic indeed.
I find that when I'm getting sick of my house I can move stuff around and it "feels" new. Furniture, sure. But even just little stuff. Hang in there. Winter's got to be over soon!

  2. Pam! Your writing is beautiful & your table is gorgeous!!!! Make sure you take a pic of those dining room/study walls as the kids will remember that & they will brag about you when they are in college. "Once, my Mom let us write on the dining room walls". I am so happy that you met a new friend~I have a feeling that you will be back on the court in no time:) Love your window & the white painted woodwork (OK, a little envy here!).

  3. Hey! We were online at the same time! Love that feeling that we are actually talking!
Just a suggestion about math tutors--sometimes if you call a neighboring high school they can find a good kid who relates better to teenagers. Not someone Stephen knows but can relate to. And they charge a lot less, but they remember the material better.
Tucker's told me that a few clients have called other tutors in the past, and they didn't even know the subject at all, just tutored kids in general.
Wish he could be there too. That would mean we were friends, and I could help you rearrange your tchotchkes until they all made you happy!
    Good luck today!

  4. Yes, Pam as they say, "Bloom where you are planted". Thanks for being honest and keeping it real! We all have these feelings of "I want" sneak up on us. I'm glad you met a new friend. She sounds like a keeper. And I love what you have done to your table!

  5. Love the table display, and am so glad you've made a new friend! I'm with you on the house thing. As much as I try to be grateful for our house, right now I just want to remodel the house from top to bottom. Shame the bank balance doesn't let me!

  6. I think that photo is gorgeous...looks straight out of a magazine. I start hating my house when I'm IN it too much...like ALL winter. I have this one thing that helps...I scrub like there's no tommorow and do what you did...buy some plants/flowers. And it seems to cure the house blahs...at least for awhile.

  10. Love. This. Vignette. And I HATE the "I wants" but thankfully, the minute I start being grateful, "they" go away. Sounds like you got it together!!! You write so beautifully! xoxo

  11. Pam I love that tablescape...just so spring! Your writing is wonderful, a real talent. You seem so unhappy with the house, pick one room and just do it! Get started making changes, even small ones will help. Personally I love every room you have shared with us. xoxo
