The Day the Lights Went Out

We lost our power today for 12 hours. It was a long 12 hours. I woke up at 6 A.M to a bang and a flash outside and then everything went dark. And cold. And of course Steve was traveling.

The first few hours were actually fun and cozy and all "Little House on the Prairie-ish". The kids and I all snuggled up in my bed cuz that's where it was the warmest. I read aloud to them from the book I'm reading...we played games..and then it got COLD and the kids started fighting. I started thinking hard about jumping ship and going to a hotel. And then my neighbor knocked on my door with an armful of firewood and a bottle of wine. So we lit the fire, opened the wine and all was good. The house warmed up quickly, I warmed up quickly and the lights came back on.

Will telling a scary story.

I am so thankful for a warm house tonight and thoughtful neighbors.

  1. Looks cozy...but I'm glad the cold didn't last long. And look at all your snow. Sounds like the cleanse is going well too. I dont think I could live w/o my coffee.

  3. I was wondering about you and this storm today. They said schools in the Boston area were closed. So you had all the monkeys home today? I love the snow pictures. I miss it so much, then . . . I get over it.
Sorry Steve was gone for the excitement.
And I didn't miss the mention of the wine, Ms. Cleanser . . . ;)
I just got your comment on my blog, and I love the idea that we're both online at the same time. Like we're actually talking, not just messaging. Maybe one day . . .

  7. I was wondering about that storm I read about in the news. I remember loosing power and those memories are the best.

Cold snap here has burst pipes and we have no water. 6 kids and unflushable toilets ... Not the of best memories :)

  8. I have to admit that I *almost* wished that we had lost power during the storm, but then I remembered when we lost it for 4 DAYS during the ice storm a couple of years ago. Not fun. (Tree fell on the house and knocked our chimney off!) Might just be me, but it always seems as though just as I'm getting used to NOT having power and starting to actually ENJOY it is when the lights burst on....

Aren't neighbors with wine just the best?! Luckily for us, our neighbors are some of our best friends, so snow days are really fun here ~
