Stop thinking so much

Sometimes I think I look back too much. Whether it's something I did or said ten minutes ago or something that happened 10 years ago. I also think I look ahead just as much....what kind of adults will my children become, where will Steve and I retire, will I be needing a walker when Griffin graduates from college..that sort of thing.

When I look back at my life I don't really think there is much I'd change, if anything. However, when I look ahead, even just to tomorrow, I want to make changes...simple things really, but still changes.

While I was walking on the beach with Griffy today I just kept telling myself...just be. Don't think. I think too much I think. (Could I say THINK anymore?) I'm really trying to be in the moment more. Isn't that how we come to appreciate our moments more?

For me, this is how I can slow life down. Not looking back or ahead.

With the past, I have nothing to do; nor with the future. I live now. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

  1. Oh Pam! I can SO relate! Backwards...ahead...you are SO right... Um, yes, how about NOW instead???? I love reading these blogs! Yours are beautiful and soulful - really!
You've inspired me now - I will be more conscious now of where my brain spends its time!
    Thank you....:)
Oh, BTW...that rearview mirror pic of darling Griffy is CLASSIC!! You were brilliant(!!) to think of it...I'm sure it's the predominant sight on some of your days...carpooling, shopping....you know, LIFE!
Soon you'll be looking at him NEXT to you in the car...looking in his OWN rearview mirror. :)
Then when you look back (it's OK sometimes, right?:)
You'll be so happy to remember that wonder-FULL time!
    Love you,
    MA

  4. I've missed your posts this weekend. I agree with the looking back/looking forward thing. I think that comes from having kids at so many different ages. And if you need a walker when Griffy's in college, I'll be right alongside, watching Eve with my hearing aids and bifocals.
Loved the post about sleepovers. I feel exactly the same. Even cousins. Can we ask Congress to outlaw them? Just sayin'.
