Les Invalides

it was a beautiful day here in paris yesterday.
sunny but still cold.
this week spring is in the air
and i'm ready for it.

we walked to the library
with the little kids yesterday
and then on to
Les Invalides.
it is such a beautiful building.
ordered to be built by
Louis XIV in 1670 and completed
in 1676.
it was a home and hospital
for soldiers.
there are a few different museums
inside..all relating to french military history.
it is also the burial place of
Napoleon Bonaparte.
and had it not been late in the
afternoon..we would have
gone into the musee de l'Armee.
we will be back to visit this museum
for sure.
however, we did enjoy
just walking around the
grounds and courtyard.

leaving les invalides
walking towards the
grand palais on the left.

we spent a lot of time this weekend
planning our next trip!
the kids start vacation this coming
weekend and we're headed
to ireland!
ireland has been on the top of
my list to visit and i could not
be more excited.
we leave saturday on the overnight ferry!

  1. Oooh, so jealous about your trip to Ireland--I have always wanted to go! Loved Scotland to pieces though--it was so beautiful and everyone was friendly.

Happy to see some blue skies for you, Pam!
    Bon Voyage...

  2. Beautiful photographs! Love the sun that you are getting. Have a wonderful trip to Ireland. It is on my list of places to go visit as well. My husband has been twice on business since we moved to London and I have been so jealous each time. He really liked it and took great photos to make me want to go even more. Hopefully sometime soon we will be able to go as a family. Enjoy!

  3. The building itself is a piece of art! Have a wonderful time in Ireland Pam! My neighbor went a couple of months ago and I sat with her at her kitchen table and devoured her pictures and stories. I'm sure you will love it. Take your wellies!

  4. Drive up the west coast, go to the touristy-but-fun show at Bunratty Castle, see the Cliffs of Moher, listen to music in Doolin, go on a hawk walk at falconry school at Ashford Castle, go to beaches in Mayo (Silver and White Strands, gorgeous!!), pop into Westport. Enjoy!!

  5. Ireland? Wow. What excitement. I've never been, but I can't wait to see it through your eyes.

Les Invalides is one of my favorite places ever. I can't believe the marble work on the floors and the size of that crypt (and the color of the marble) are amazing!
