City Living

transitioning from our own home
near the beach
with a yard and the freedom
to talk and play as loud as
you'd like..
to an apartment in the city
 has been challenging.
especially for the younger kids.
when the kids start to get cooped up..
and they do..
i can't just say,
"go out and play."
 don't get me wrong..
i love the city.
there is so much that i love about
living here.
i love walking everywhere.
i haven't driven a car since august
and i don't miss it.
i love that there is
always something to do
or somewhere to go.
i love the lights
and the hustle and bustle
of living in a city.

i'm still trying to adjust
to the noisiness of living in
a city.
and not just the noise
coming from outside.

moving our family of six
to a new country..
piece of cake.
dealing with crazy loud
neighbors...
not so much.

  1. Pam - Discovered your blog days ago and have read it start to finish. It is now my favorite! Really admire your ability to juggle your children, husband and moving to Paris so gracefully. I really have enjoyed discovering the sights and felt as if I were walking through this adventure with you and your family. Thanks for sharing your adventures.

  2. Even I get stir crazy from being inside so I can't imagine what it must be like for you to keep your kids happy! One of the things that I found frustrating while living in Paris is that the countryside is so far away and coming back in traffic on a Sunday evening was so stressful that it would zap away all of the good that going away had created! One of the things that I appreciate about Arles is that we can go on a hike after a fifteen minute drive and really find quiet. But as for the neighbors? Alas, our current neighbor to the right is a fan of punk/speed metal that he plays so loudly that the walls shake. And there is nothing we can do about it as it is never after 10pm. Sigh.

  3. Ah, noisy neighbors. An unavoidable part of apartment-living. Screaming matches. Slamming doors. Stiletto addict walking miles upstairs, just above your bedroom... Memories, memories. :-) Reading your description of city life made me feel even more homesick. You captured exactly what I miss here, in my spacious and quiet home in American suburbia. Dang. I almost miss the stiletto addict lady! Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)

  4. I promise, one day the noisy neighbors will be part of your fond stories of living in Paris...or it will fade completely and you will just remember the fantastic opportunity you were given.I think Veronique might just trade spaces with you for awhile :) Janey

  5. Hannah looks so cute up there! It would take awhile to get used to-trading one thing for another-but I bet it's so fun to go exploring!
